another...He's the man

After failing to play the movie during the last YA session, finally this week, with only 4 person present, we managed to watch the movie in church. Conclusion for this session? Definitely worth the effort. Thanks jie.

Amazing Grace was the movie that we watched. Directed by Michael Apted about the campaign against the slave trade in 18th century Britain. The whole movie was mainly about William Wilberforce who led the group into the parliament on this issue. Why watch it during Y.A session you ask? Because, William Wilberforce (played by Ioan Gruffudo) was involved in many missionary activities and also active in evangelical organizations. There was a point in life where he got the calling from God, but he was in doubt whether to walk the path of political activist or to do the work of God. Then, this group of people, anti-slave trade people, suggested that he do both. And thus his journey began. Through many failures and objections by almost everyone, he pursued the impossible, hoping to give freedom to the slaves who suffered terribly just for someone in London to add a cube of sugar or two into their cup of tea. William Wilberforce fought together for years with his close friend William Pitt (played by Benedict Cumberbatch), and finally, after years..... they succeeded by cheating the parliament. Yes, they succeeded by cheating. Interested in knowing how? Go watch the movie. I have a copy..^_^

The plot was great, meaningful and inspiring. Not only that, the whole movie is an art. The scenes, the background, the architectures, a wow factor. Excuse my exaggeration. I just love that century. As I watched this movie, the urge of painting every scene down kept coming, imagining how beautiful the canvas will be with this scene on it, with this person on it. Nice....

Final conclusion, start looking for this movie!! Bear with the slow progress of this movie if you're not a lover of that century, concentrate on the plot instead then. Its a good movie, and I get to learn about another great man. William Wilberforce. Definitely a man to look up to.

" When people speak of great man, they think of man like Napolean, man of violence. Rarely, do they think of peaceful man. With contrast of reception they received when they returned home from their battles, Napolean will arrive in pomp and in power. A man who has achieved the very summit of thus the ambition, and these dreams will be haunted, by the repressions of war. William Wilberforce however, returned to his family, laid his head on his pillow, and remember, the slave trade, is no more."
