Beginning with the study model
nice a not? nice a not?? From the photo not really clear though. Don't have the feel. Anyway, we were asked to design a wall light after researching on a tribe we choose. I chose the Kikuyu tribe from South Africa, Kenya. Can you translate what kind of tribe the Kikuyu is from the wall light?
If you looked carefully, the leaves, leaning against each other, actually gives the feeling of supporting. They crowd together (showing unity) to protect the one light.
There are actually 9 pieces of leaves you see. Its actually related to the Kikuyu legend. The Kikuyu tribe believed that, the God of creator, which is known as Ngai, placed a man named Kikuyu on the Holy mountain, where he met a woman. They had 9 daughters...that's why there are nine leaves to protect that nine daughters. Kikuyu prayed hard for 9 good husbands for his daughters. That's why there's nice pieces of rolled up darker green leaves below, supporting the sculpture. And also, the Kikuyu tribe's shield, are similar to the shape of a leaf. Originally, I didn't plan to use leaves. But then, comments and advices and ideas from lecturers and friends...solving problems caused by materials. the final product became like this. At least, its better than what I expect. ^^
Do my explanation make any sense? I hope so. Because, tomorrow is the submission day. >< yikes..
This is my 2nd basic design project and basic design always gives me that satisfaction when everything is done. And seriously, the feeling is realllllllllly goooooood..... its like starting from scratch. ahh~~~ I wonder what's the next project will be.... ^^
